Safe access for maintenance crews where an embankment is present creates practical difficulties where no stairway exists, or end of life wooden/steel structures are in place. GRP embankment staircases are a lightweight and durable solution which offer reduced installation times and remove the need for expensive heavy plant equipment in difficult to access areas.
The custom built GRP embankment staircases are built from glass fibre composite materials. Personnel can utilise the completed staircase to gain safe passage over uneven ground at railway trackside or river bank locations. Gated and fenced options are also available to restrict access to authorised personnel only.
We are happy to provide on-site, no-obligation, free surveys, with free budget quotations on request for proposed projects.
Design consultancy services are also available.
Glass Reinforced Polymer (GRP) products will not rust or rot and they are easy to clean too. Medium acquisition and low life-cycle costs are also significant. Should substantial damage ever occur to any components, modular construction allows for quick, easy & low-cost repairs.
Background
The use of composite materials for infrastructure renewals and improvements on the UK’s railway system has gathered pace in recent years. GRP systems have benefits which show clear advantages over alternative proposals (steel, concrete & timber), with a combination of desirable characteristics:
- Corrosion resistance
- High strength
- Light weight
- Low maintenance
- Low life cycle costs
- Rapid fit times
- Insulating properties (electrically non-conductive)
